Kala is a symbolic fish, consisting of a sculpted glass vase curled into a Walnut wooden bowl.
The use of bright glass colours and the diamond-wheel fine cuts on the glass turn each ones of these pieces into a true ornament.
Kala is a tactile companion, to give as a precious gift or to keep as a centrepiece for a desk or a small table. You will find it difficult to resist skimming its "fins".
Dimensions : H. 24cm dia. 12cm
Dimensions are approximate, due to the handmade nature of the materials
Handmade in Europe, by individual craftsmen: handblown and cold-worked glass (Czech Republic), hand turned Maple wood (Germany). The materials then come to our warehouse in North Germany where they are fitted and assembled.
Craft Challenge: Kala has a hand chiselled surface that seeks to be both organic and geometric, like the scales on a fish. With great care the surface and mouth of the piece are cold worked to keep their symbolic character without risking becoming too obvious.
The wooden bowl of the Kala achieves a sculpted aesthetic through the individually formed little legs which form the fin of the fish shape. They are sawed, chiselled and sanded out of a solid ring of wood and leave a hand finished surface individual to each bowl.
