‘Beetle’ is a collection of jars, thought as handy containers and playful bonbon boxes.

‘Oceania’ combines a wooden base (Larch) and a heavy glass lid.
The warm feel of the wood and the density of the glass makes it precious to close and to open. The upper part can be put upside down and serve as a serving bowl or plate. Contemplate your Beetle jar from different angles, it never looks the exact same.

With its generous inner volume, your Beetle will be a safe place for your jewels, sweets, and other secrets. In the kitchen, dining room or bedroom, we always need a treasure box at hand… Where will you place yours?

Dimensions: height 21cm, diameter 13.5cm
Dimensions are approximate, due to the handmade nature of the materials

Handmade in Europe, by individual craftsmen: mouth blown glass (Czechia), hand turned wood (Finland). The materials are then fitted and assembled in our warehouse in North Germany.

Craft challenges:
About the glass part - when blowing the glass, the weight of the material has to be centred on the top of the bubble while keeping the walls very thin. This allows for the glass to be blown with a very thick base and a thin lip and creates optical illusion depending on the angle you look at it. Some parts are blown with iridescent colours: a blue can become amber, a transparent can become opaque, depending on where the light falls.
About the wood part - the volume of the jar demands a solid piece of timber of a stately scale. The seasoned wood has to measure at least 25cm in radius in order to accommodate the shape of the jar. Each piece has a unique grain and natural marks of the wood (knots and branches).
